Stephen Kid Makes Good

It seems like the perfect time to congratulate Stephen, MN native Craig Smith on helping lead the Colorado State Rams basketball team to the NCAA Tournament.  Craig, an assistant coach, and his wife, Darcy, also a Stephen alumnus, have been in Fort Collins for five years.  Rams Head Coach Tim Miles  is well known in these parts.  His career path has taken him from Mayville State to Southwest State in Marshall, Minnesota to North Dakota State and now Colorado State.  And by his side for most of the ride has been Smith.

Craig was always a good kid from a great family.  Back in the glory days of Stephen Tiger football, Craig and Bryce Lingen combined to make one of the all-time great student manager tandems in school history.  Thinking back on it, it was obvious how much he loved being around sports and how much of a hard worker he was.

It’s easy to cheer for the good guys.  Good luck Craig!  And go Rams!

  1. Chris, thanks for the great info on Craig and Darcy, like Penny said “good people from good people” and this is for sure. A relative and friend that we are most proud of and I have told Craig many times to watch for Phil Jackson’s retirement and get over and take over the “Lakers”. He has always been a great kid, adult and person and we are proud of his many accomplishments.

  2. Glad Craig will get the accomplishment of making it to the Big Dance. It is always good to see great things happen to great people. Nice job Reggie on passing along the kudos to the “local kid done good”. Hope Craig enjoys it, he has put in his time around the gym. Is Craig a Tales reader? If so, response from Smitty?? PS- Thanks to Vern, there is one kid from Stephen with less hair than me!

  3. Thanks for posting this Chris. It is always nice to see the good kids get the good rewards. By the way, you aren’t doing so bad yourself. We are very proud of the kids that have come out of our little town and accomplished big things:)
