About 6 or 7 years ago, we had an intern here at WDAZ-TV by the name of Rachel.  She was a University of Nebraska student by way of Grand Forks Central majoring in journalism.  As I do with most interns, I secretly pleaded with her to search out a new profession.  But apparently it fell on deaf ears, because when I spoke to her this morning by phone, she was in Cairo.  As in Cairo, Egypt.

She’s been living in Egypt since the Summer.  And now with the uprising in Cairo, she has been doing freelance media work, right in the middle of all the chaos.  As we spoke for 10 minutes via Skype Phone, there was a lot of commotion in the background.  As she went to her hotel room window, she looked out at Tahrir Square and said, “Everyone’s running down the street.  I gotta go see what’s happening.”  And with that, she was gone.

I also spoke to her mother this morning.  What she said to me made me feel pretty good:  “You know, this is all your fault.”

I couldn’t be prouder.
