Boom Goes The Dynamite, Again

You Tube will probably never be able to thank Brian Collins enough.  At last check, almost 6,000,000 (six million) people had watched him on the Internet’s favorite channel.  In fact, Collins and You Tube were joined at the hip when the website was in its infancy.  If Brian’s name doesn’t ring a bell, it’s probably because he is better known by the “Boom Goes The Dynamite” guy.  The word classic was coined for this guy.

Brian became an overnight sensation after that sportscast.  In fact, I’ve been using his wacky catch-phrase ever since.  I think it works best to use it right after someone gets off a good one-liner.

Anyway, sports fans, good news on the Brian Collins’ employment watch.  He survived that episode and moved forward, like all good TV people do, and he’s alive and well in Alexandria, Minnesota!  KSAX, the local station in Alex, scooped him up.  The story gets better once you learn who hired him…wait for it…former WDAZ reporter and current KSAX News Director Cristi Jessee.  I worked with Cristi in the late 90′s, early 2000′s.  I remember her being quite “colorful” and “fun-loving.”  Two pretty good attributes, especially in the TV business.  In an email to me, Cristi said, “We are very happy to have him as part of the KSAX Eyewitness News Family!” Knowing Cristi, it does not surprise me one bit that she would hire the “BGTD” guy.  Classic indeed.  I wish I had a catch-phrase.

  1. I love when he “sighs” because he is so lost. Poor soul. I’d love to see a new clip of his, I’m sure, vast improvment.
