Josh Duhamel

As a Ralph Engelstad Arena employee and part of the Fighting Sioux Sports Network in my spare time, I operate a camera at all home hockey games.  My duties are two-fold, shooting for the TV production and for the “in-house” or “big screen” inside the arena.  Suffice it to say that games are very hectic but highly enjoyable.  From my vantage point at suite level, one of my responsibilities is to shoot the “Welcome” before each hockey game.  If you haven’t seen one, it’s when some VIP stands in front of my camera and says, “I’m (insert name here), welcome to the beautiful Ralph Engelstad Arena!”  Or something similar to that.  It’s shown throughout the arena and on the big-screens.

Through the nearly 10 years at REA, I’ve met close to 200 VIPs of varying VIP-ness. Eddie Belfour, Beer Granny, some guy from one of those home improvement shows, Governors, Senators, Jared from Subway…and the list goes on and on.  I should have kept a log or a guest book of some sort.

When asked who’s been my favorite, the answer is Josh Duhamel (sorry Beer Granny.)  In the first year or two of The Ralph, Duhamel, an actor, was in the middle of promoting his movie “Win a Date With Tad Hamilton” (never saw it.)  Being a huge Fighting Sioux fan and a native of Minot, ND, he decided to take in a game and did the “Welcome.”  “Isn’t this great?” he asked me as he slapped me on the back and surveyed the crowd.  He was clearly having fun.  He was very tall, which is the exception to my “all famous people are short” theory.  Another interesting Duhamel tidbit is that he is engaged married to Fergie from the Black Eyed Peas.  Nice.  Anyway, a friend of mine in Hollyweird Hollywood tells me that in Duhamel’s new movie, “Life As We Know It,” opening next week, Josh wears Fighting Sioux apparel throughout the movie.  In some of the scenes he’s sporting a hat with the logo and in others he’s wearing a Fighting Sioux shirt.  That’s pretty cool.  And an incredible amount of free publicity for UND.  I don’t know if I will go to the movie because Katherine Heigl is in it, and I find her annoying.  But Duhamel’s PR work for the Sioux isn’t just limited to the big screen.  He wears the apparel out in public as well.  So I did a little digging, and this is what I came up with.  Ladies…and Sioux fans…enjoy.

  1. actually they are married, for a couple yrs now. I saw them at the Twins/Sox game in Chicago in Aug – he had a Twins cap on, she had a Sox cap on! Glad to see he represents the hometown area!

  2. I just wanted to update this great story with the fact that Josh and Fergie are actually married. Otherwise, great story, keep it up!

  3. Sorry everyone. I guess after being real close to Josh back in the early 2000’s we went our separate ways. I lost track of what he was doing. By the way, I think Jimmy from Accounting and Jenni from Accounting would make a nice couple.

  4. In one of his movies, I want to say “Tad Hamilton” but I might be wrong, he is on the phone with someone, but in the background the TV is tuned to a Fighting Sioux Game. I picked up on it, my Dad is OpDir, and I remember telling him about it! :)

  5. He visited his mom, who still lives in Minot, often while we lived there and he was a class act all the time. Out at baseball games and just very average. He even did a last minute Live United photo shoot. Appears to be an overall genuinly good person.

  6. Maybe he’s a “nice guy” but wasn’t he caught cheating on Fergie with a hooker or stripper or something? Way to represent, Josh.

  7. I actually just saw the movie and he WAS wearing some Sioux gear! I was super excited. My friend tried to tell me that it was the Blackhawks logo. I wanted to punch him. It is NOT Blackhawks stuff.

  8. He is from a great family. We know his Dad (Detroit Lakes, MN) & he also is a class act.

  9. Undeniably believe that which you said. Your favorite justification seemed to be on the internet the
easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get irked
while people consider worries that they plainly do not know about.
You managed to hit the nail upon the top and also defined out the
whole thing without having side-effects , people could take
a signal. Will probably be back to get more.

  10. I don’t know whether it’s just me or if perhaps everyone else experiencing problems with your site.
It appears as if some of the text in your content are running off the
screen. Can someone else please comment and let me know if this is happening to them as well?
This may be a problem with my internet browser because I’ve had this happen previously.
    Appreciate it
