Chad Johnson to Take Leave of Absence in Lincoln

The Lincoln Stars announced today that former University of North Dakota hockey player Chad Johnson will take a leave of absence from his coaching duties with the United States Hockey League club.  According to the team, Johnson underwent a series of medical tests last week, and has been advised by his physicians to take some time away from hockey to focus on his health.  No timetable has been set for his return.   Associate Head Coach Jimmy McGroarty and assistant Andy Schneider, also a former UND player, will lead the team during Johnson’s absence.

Through the team, Johnson issued this statement:  “I sincerely appreciate the support of the Stars organization, the players, and fans while we deal with this issue.  I’m excited for this year’s team, and look forward to returning after a full and complete recovery.”
