Last week I was offered and accepted a new job at WDAZ-TV as the Assignment Editor. This position includes several duties, but probably can be best defined as the person who assigns story ideas to the reporters each day and facilitates the process of an idea turning into an actual story that you see on the 5, 6, and 10:00 news. So what does this all mean? It means more time in the newsroom and less windshield time. More time on the phone and less time out in the public. And that, I will miss. The thousands of people I’ve met while being the Chief Photographer at WDAZ, people that I wouldn’t have met otherwise, have been the best part of the job. But the challenges presented by the new job are awesome and I couldn’t be more excited. Another duty will be updating content on our website, wdaz.com. I can assure you that website will be the place you go for news in the Upper Midwest. We’ve got some fun and exciting ideas in store. Also, another positive note, no more standing outside during a blizzard, tornado, or flood. I’ve been told that if any “special assignments” present themselves, like Vancouver (wink), I will make myself available. And most importantly, the blog will go on. I will find things to write about, albeit from a new perspective. For instance, next week, I’m going to write about things I won’t miss as a television news photographer. That’s going to be a fun blog. Have a nice weekend! And Go Twins!
