New Terminal @ GFK

Last week I had the opportunity to tour the new airport terminal that is under construction at the Grand Forks Airport.  North Dakota Senator Kent Conrad tagged along to make sure that the federal portion of the money was being spent wisely.  The new terminal is on a site about a quarter mile south of the current terminal, on the west side of the airport road.  First a word about the old terminal.  Actually, the word “terminal” describes it pretty well.  It has all the charm of a 1970’s hospital.  I’ve seen funeral homes that were better lit and more festive.  That said, it’s easy to see that the new terminal was long overdue.  And I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a winner.  It is double the size, with two stories, and the parking is going to increase by about 25%.  And the front of the building is full of glass and will offer a far more warm feeling.  At $23 million, it should be a serious upgrade.  It is expected to be ready by next spring.  I can’t wait.
